Why We Run

Sarah was 4 ½ years old in 2008 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Sarah’s parents researched her type of tumor and the best places in the country to receive treatment.  All roads led to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude is a second home to Sarah, and she has so many happy memories about the time she has spent there as well as a deep love for all the doctors and nurses who have taken care of her.

Sarah’s parents believe that from the moment they walked into St. Jude, their prayers had been answered. St. Jude not only set up a treatment plan for Sarah’s fight against cancer, they had plans for how to best manage and monitor Sarah’s growth and development. St. Jude enabled Sarah’s parents to focus on Sarah and gave them hope for Sarah and her future after treatment. Sarah’s parents never received a bill for housing, travel or medical expenses. They are so very grateful for all they have received from St. Jude.

Sarah is a vibrant 16-year-old. She has the biggest heart and her smile lights up the room. Her hugs are legendary and her positive attitude is one of her best traits. She makes us all better people just from knowing her. Our team “Sarah is Our Superhero” was born out of our love for Sarah and our passion to make a difference for her and other kids facing serious medical concerns.

Since 2015, our team has participated in the Memphis Marathon weekend. The first year our team was 2 members strong and we have grown to more than a dozen women dedicated to raising money and spreading the word about St. Jude. One of our sponsors even purchased a 12-passenger van to drive to Memphis, which we have already outgrown. We have seen the difference St. Jude has made in Sarah and her family’s life. After visiting St. Jude, we became even more passionate about the magic that was happening there. We have met people who have discussed their ground-breaking research, interacted with patient families, and given high fives to patients during the event. The trip is life-changing and inspiring.

“Sarah is our Superhero” hosts creative fundraising activities throughout the year and has raised over $40K with more to come. We would be honored if you choose to support us. We promise you will get back more than you ever imagined, and your support will help current and future families like Sarah’s.
